We are heading for Turtle Island. There is an old man in the galley making ramen.
Yes, there is a screenplay here in the making. This week’s moment of respite is all about this new twist to electionyearing. I came up with this simple duet to commemorate the occasion…I think it appropriate and relevant, no less for adults than children.
The duet is for two quite different people, as different as possible. The old man sings the first line…with a hand pointed at himself;
“I’m a little bit of everything “ He begins, firmly
The second line is sung by the other person, a female child, possibly.
“I’m a little bit of everything” She sings, pointing to herself proudly and maybe even a bit defiantly.
He repeats his line, no less defiantly, and then she does the same.
I’m a little bit of everything (him)
I’m a little bit of everything (her)
Now the second verse he starts…him now pointing at her
You’re a little bit of everything, playfully accusing, he sings.
Then she points the finger at him and sings the same line right back at him:
You’re a little bit of everything, she exclaims.
He repeats the line even more fervently, and she right back at him, again.
You’re a little bit of everything (him)
You're a little bit of everything (her)
The last verse is the two of them, together singing the next line twice looking at each other and two at the audience:
We’re a little bit of everything,
We’re a little bit of everything,
We are all a little bit of everything,
We are all a little bit of everything.
In fact, we are no less stardust than we are today’s breakfast.
So, what is all the damn fuss ?

It’s beautiful and so very true.
