From the Rumson Hotel Kitchen to the Washington Hilton

I had been in that room, the one with the Biden speaking last night, to hear James Watt blither on in 1983 about selling everything to an audience that was paid to love him, and of course, the front man for the MCA octopus.

I guess I could say that I worked there a decade later in 1993, but that would be a stretch, and I am going to glide right by all of that after the inauguration of Clinton ‘stuff’ I left not long after I arrived, credential less, to that mess. I have not been in that Hotel since then, when I knew that I was over my head and some.

I did stop by for doughnuts at Krispy Creme and spin around the monument in the middle of a 2000 summer night, and then again, a few times during the Obama years, fine dining with the next generation, then experts on everything. I was for the record, paying. Most memorable was a late victory lap during the shutdown of 2013, when I was practically the only one eating grilled octopus on K street.

Writing a script is no easy thing, but an excellent diversion from electionyearing. Crafting dialogue is not something that historians should be doing, but neither is science fiction. I figure I have until inauguration to first draft this thing, when my need for diversion should be winding down.
