Mushroom Chili
Perfect With Spaghetti
I am a little bit of everything, but I never have been a screenplay writer, up until now, that is. I grew up with boats and working in kitchens. I wanted to be a photographer. I wanted to be a lot of things.
The script: I am comfortable with Turtle Island in the distance. I like the crew, I like the ship, I like the old man in the galley making mushroom chili with Spaghetti.
This is my moment of respite. I like the direction this project, this ship, this meal all are headed. I wonder if the kids in Minnesota will ever see this on the menu. I wonder about a lot of things.
I used to change planes in LAX regularly. There was one little deli-like concession across from the gate. They always had mushroom soup on the menu. I would sit there with a container and watch the world pass by.
I never ate spaghetti in transit; I never wanted to risk it.
The view from the short bus to SLO after being stuck by United at LAX. Find your own way home, they said. So, we did.
